This week, the doctors and staff at Virginia Eye Consultants devoted two days to performing free sight-saving eye surgeries for patients throughout Hampton Roads.
The annual Looking Forward…Giving Back program is designed to help members of the community who are uninsured, underinsured or financially unable to pay for their procedure.
Each spring, patients are selected through a nomination process.
This year, a panel of doctors and community leaders reviewed nominations and 50 recipients were selected.
This is the fourth year the doctors at Virginia Eye Consultants have provided this service. Procedures include cataract surgery, corneal transplants, glaucoma surgery and other treatments for trauma.
Nominations for Looking Forward…Giving Back will open again in March of 2017 and surgeries will be performed in August.
These sight-saving surgeries can be life changing. Some of our patients shared their stories with WVEC ABC 13 News Now.
